Routine Dental Hygiene

Your Dental Hygienist plays a key role in your oral health. They will provide you with vital preventative care and help you stay healthy with a wonderful smile.

Dental Hygienists are experts in regard to your oral health. They provide education and therapies to keep your gums healthy. Education and understanding of your gum health are a crucial part of your treatment and have a huge impact on other areas of your body, not only helping you keep a heathy mouth but also help reduce the risk of other diseases. Gum disease has been linked to

  • Heart disease and heart attacks
  • Diabetes and it’s control
  • Stroke
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Dementia

The good news is that brushing your teeth properly and looking after your gums with the help of your hygienist can prevent and treat gum disease, improve your overall health and help to reduce your risk of health problems, such as heart disease.

Visit your dentist and dental hygienist regularly for cleaning and check-ups. It’s especially important to look after your teeth and gums if you’re pregnant.

How often should I visit the hygienist?

This depends on your individual oral health and will be discussed with you and tailored to your needs as part of your treatment plan with your Dentist and Hygienist.

As a general rule the majority of patients visit the hygienist every six months, but some patients require three monthly visits to maintain their gum health, this may be due to an increased risk of gum diseases, Dental Implants, Pregnancy, Orthodontic treatment or certain health conditions.
