Dental implants are the next best thing to having your own teeth. They are strong, comfortable and very natural looking.
The implant itself is a titanium root which is placed and integrated into your jawbone. We can then place a crown to restore a single tooth with a or bridge or denture for multiple missing teeth. An implant is firmly fixed into your bone they look very natural and feel very secure.
Assessment Appointment: Our dental implant team will arrange an implant consultation with Nigel at a convenient for you to come into our dental implant clinic and discuss your concerns with him.
Clinical Consultation: Prior to your visit you will be asked to complete a dental and medical history questionnaire. This will include a comprehensive oral assessment. Nigel will assess your mouth and treatment needs and discuss with you exactly what you would like to do. He may take photographs, x-rays or a 3-D CT scan of your jaws. He will discuss with you the placement of implants on these scans to help you understand the treatment proposed and assess for any risks. No treatment is provided at this appointment, the aim of this is to assess exactly what end result you hope to achieve and Nigel will discuss with you all the treatment options available to you so that you can decide how you would like to proceed.
Treatment Planning: Nigel will create a bespoke written treatment plan for you, detailing options and costs for your dental implants procedure. This will be sent to you so that you can fully understand exactly what options you have and what treatment he is proposing.
Treatment: Every patient is unique. Every patient will receive a bespoke treatment plan tailored to their needs.
Integration: Typically, a patient will require 2-3 months of integration prior to their final, permanent teeth. During the healing period a fixed bridge or removable denture is used to keep the aesthetics of any gap (this is not always necessary but will be discussed with you).
Restoration: Your permanent teeth are usually fitted between 3 and 9 months after we have placed your implants. In certain cases we can fit teeth in a day, the provisional teeth are fitted on the day we place your implants, but this is only suitable in certain cases.
Maintenance: Regular dental examinations and hygiene appointments are vital to maintain the health of your mouth, teeth and implants. You can experience the same problems around your implants as you can your teeth if you do not maintain them, e.g. gum disease and eventually the loss of your implants.
Aftercare: We think it is very important you maintain your regular dental examinations and hygiene visits. If you have been referred by your own dentist for your implant treatment they will undertake these. We will keep in touch and review your implants following the current guidelines. If you are at all concerned about your implants in the future you should contact us directly for an appointment.
If you have an emergency contact the practice on 01904 653 284 and our team will help you. Out of hours during weekends and weekday evenings we operate an emergency on call system, and you will be directed to the appropriate care.
